About the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering


Our department was founded by Prof. Dr. Necdet TÜKEL in 1983, by expanding the Chair of Metallurgy of Y─▒ld─▒z University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering with the name of "Department of Metallurgical Engineering". In 1992, during the reconstruction after obtaining technical university status, our departmant was replaced under the roof of Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering. Same year evening education of our department was commenced.

Our department, which was renamed as "Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering" in 1996, educates in Metallurgy, Materials and Ceramics topics.

Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering contains two chairs named as "Materials Science and Engineering" and "Extractive Metallurgy". After the bachelor's degree our department offers M.Sc. degrees in Materials Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy branches and Ph.D. degrees in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

To achieve the vision of the department, after 1 year of English Prep education, the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering offers courses about fundamental science, fundamental engineering, professional courses and social and political sciences. Additionally compulsory practical work (internship) is required.
